Force: A push or pull on an object resulting from its interaction with another object, measured in newtons (N).
Newton (N): The SI unit of force, equal to 1 kg*m/s^2, that accelerates a 1 kg mass at 1 m/s^2.
Contact force: A force that acts only when two objects are physically touching each other.
Field force: A force that acts on an object at a distance without the objects being in contact, such as gravity.
Net force: The vector sum of all individual forces acting on an object.
Balanced forces: A set of forces whose vector sum is zero, producing no acceleration.
Unbalanced forces: A set of forces whose vector sum is nonzero, producing acceleration.
Free-body diagram: A simplified sketch showing an object as a point with all forces acting on it drawn as arrows.
