Kinetic particle model: A model that explains the behaviour of matter by treating it as made of tiny particles that are in constant motion.
Particle: A very small piece of matter, such as an atom or molecule, that makes up a substance.
Solid: A state of matter with a fixed shape and volume in which particles vibrate about fixed positions in a regular arrangement.
Liquid: A state of matter with a fixed volume but no fixed shape in which particles are close together but free to move past one another.
Gas: A state of matter with no fixed shape or volume in which particles are far apart and move freely at high speeds.
State of matter: One of the physical forms (solid, liquid or gas) in which a substance can exist.
Change of state: The process by which a substance changes from one state of matter to another, such as melting or boiling.
Particle arrangement: The way particles are positioned relative to each other in a given state of matter.
